Florence man dies in crash on Nat'l Cemetery Rd.

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A Florence man is dead after being hit by car on National Cemetery Road.

According to Florence PD spokesman Lt. Carlos Raines, a man driving on National Cemetery Road just east of Mount Hope Cemetery noticed something in the roadway and stopped to find out what it was.

When he figured out it was a person, he flashed his high beams in an attempt to alert oncoming traffic. A pizza delivery driver traveling the opposite direction did not notice the man lying in the road and ran him over, but after realizing he hit something turned around and came back.

Florence County Coroner Keith vonLutcken identified him as 42-year-old Florence resident Luther Lee Williams. He died in the hospital around 4:33 a.m. Wednesday morning from multiple blunt force traumas.

Lt. Raines says neither of the men traveling on that road were at fault, and no charges have been filed at this point in the investigation.
