Fast Times: Darlington tests out new cars, tires

Posted: Updated:

DARLINGTON - NASCAR's Bojangle's Southern 500 will bring a different look to the "Track Too Tough to Tame" on Mother's Day Weekend.

"Testing the car has been a lot of fun, because it's different, because it's new," said NASCAR vet Martin Truex, Jr.

With the NASCAR season ready to begin soon, so will the debut of the new Generation Six cars, which bare closer resemblance to actual vehicles you'd find on a dealer's showroom floor. A new look for the fans - and perhaps a new speed for the drivers.

"I think the cars will be a little faster," said Carl Edwards. "I don't know about you guys, but watching that speed with these cars on the track, I've watched the old cars so much that the new cars just look really neat and look good."

Edwards, Truex Jr. And Juan Pablo Montoya among others all arrived in Darlington on Tuesday to test a brand of Goodyear tires as well, which will also make its first appearance in the 2013 season.

"Today is all about getting the tire right. Helping Goodyear, help them get the right tire on here so they can put on a great race."

With the Daytona 500 starting later this month, the new changes have just made the drivers even more excited to get on the track.
