MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The popular movie service Netflix is branching and taking a step into their own programming with a new show that has South Carolina ties.
Friday, Netflix debuted a new show entitled "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey. The series is directed by award winning director David Fincher, who is known for "Fight Club" and "The Social Network." The show is the first to air exclusively on Netflix.
The video streaming service spent a reported $100 million on the Washington based drama that takes a look at politics, but also shines a spotlight on South Carolina.
Kevin Spacey plays a South Carolina congressman representing the Fifth Congressional District, stretching over most of the Pee Dee and borderbelt area.
This represents what was considered the Fifth District before population growth prompted the need for an additional congressman and the lines were redrawn to create the 7th Congressional District, the seat Rep. Tom Rice was elected to in 2012.
One of his staff members on the show played by Michael Kelly is a real life graduate of Coastal Carolina University.
According to their Facebook page, the series has a total of 13 episodes that you can watch on your schedule. You can watch the first episode for free here: http://nflx.it/XtCecy.
