MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Mi Mexico in Socastee recently had a visit from Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). The restaurant cook Ruben Hurtado was there for the routine inspection.
"It was great. We had everything clean," said Hurtado.
The DHEC report shows the restaurant didn't have any critical violations, but the inspector found nine regular violations.
"We had a few repairs that we had to do. But they're fixable," explained Hurtado.
There was list of repairs the inspector left behind. Mi Mexico was ordered to fix the bathroom door, floor tiles and ceiling tiles in the kitchen, and the hand sink.
"As soon as she gave us the thing we started working on the things we had to do."
The inspector also noted the bread was improperly stored, food equipment was used without the proper hood, and a scoop was missing the required handle. Mi Mexico scored an 88, an 'A' rating.
DHEC will return for a follow up inspection and Hurtado says everything at Mi Mexico says everything will be fixed will keep the 'A' rating.
"We're always keeping our 'A'. We're always keeping a good clean restaurant."
Sonic Drive-Thru on Mr. Joe White Avenue has an 'A' on the window from DHEC. Rosie Stanley noticed the drive thru's rating right away.
"I like to know that the restaurant is clean. I look at the door to look at the score they got," said Stanley.
The DHEC report shows the inspector found four violations. The inspector noted part of the floor in the refrigerator, the outside of a piece of equipment in the kitchen and the dust pan, were all dirty. The inspector noted these areas do not have contact with food. The drive thru spot scored a 96. This is a plus for Stanley who will continue to grab her breakfast at Sonic.
"Great, because this is where we come. I'm glad to hear that."
