MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Highway 701 reopened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after being shut down earlier in the afternoon.
An overturned commercial truck hauling rocks closed both directions of the highway just south of the US 22 interchange after overturning while merging onto Highway 701, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. The rocks from the truck covered the roadway, making the highway impassable on both sides.
As of 6:30 p.m. the road reopened according to South Carolina Highway Patrol's website.
There is no information on the condition of the driver at this time.
This is the second accident at this interchange in two days. Tuesday, a car crashed into a truck head-on after apparently driving the wrong way on the US 22 exit ramp.
