On the hunt: Red Foxes in search of another title

Posted: Updated:

It is difficult to find a team that has played better basketball than the Hartsville boys squad over the last 11 months, and it is a credit to past successes that are what is leading to greatness this year.

"We started playing off of last year, and just want to get back to the state championship, and get that ring," said senior guard Jaylen Shaw.

"Those guys have worked hard in the offseason," explained Hartsville head coach Aric Samuel. "I thought after coming back from the state championship victory we might have a letdown, but the seniors showed the way. They have tremendous leadership, they work hard and that's paying off right now."

Paying off in a big way - Hartsville is 20-0 so far, and dating back to their playoff run last season, have rattled off 26 straight victories, which has also produced a chain reaction for other sports in the school.

"Yeah, it was very important, I think we helped our community a lot," said senior forward Devontae Washington. "We won it, then football team won it, track and softball also got state titles."

Though this squad hopes to be able to repeat the cycle when the playoffs begin next month - and well beyond 2013.

"The chemistry between these guys is unbelievable, and they're just setting the foundation for the future, for the younger Red Foxes to model," said Samuel.
