FLORENCE
COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 10-year-old student displayed a toy gun on a Florence
School District One bus Monday afternoon, district officials confirmed in a
news release.
WMBF
News talked to Lionel Brown, the Florence District One Assistant
Superintendent. And Brown said that he could not give out any specific
information about the boy's case.
However,
Brown did mention that school policy states that in a situation like this one the student committing the act is subject to suspension pending an
administrative hearing.
Even
though Monday's school bus issue caused quite a stir, Brown said everything on
Tuesday was relatively calm. Brown added that the district did not receive an
overwhelming number of calls from frantic parents.
The
incident on the bus came a day before the district held a scheduled school
safety drill. WMBF News talked to a few parents who said those kinds of drills
are definitely needed. Safety at school is a nationwide concern.
"My
children live in Florida, they go to school down there. They're in a big high
school and it's always in the back of your mind as a parent. I spent 23 years
in the military and I'm scared," Ben Fryar said.
