Dog escaped from crash returned to family

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A family has their dog back after she ran off following a crash in Columbia Saturday morning.

Columbia Police say the couple and their dogs were headed south on Huger Street when the driver of a pickup ran a red light at Blossom Street and crashed into their SUV.  The impact caused the SUV to overturn in the intersection.

Emergency crews cut the couple out of the vehicle because they were trapped by their seat belts.  Both were taken to the hospital. Police say their injuries were not serious.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck, 33-year-old Jason Palfrey, was not injured.  But officers cited him for disregarding a red light.

One of the two dogs inside the SUV ran off after the crash, but witnesses captured the dog and returned "May" to the victim's grateful daughter, who was called to the scene.  The other dog remained with the vehicle.
