MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The coldest temperatures so far this winter season hit the Grand Strand and Pee Dee this morning, says WMBF News Meteorologist Marla Branson.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY now in effect for Scotland, Darlington, Dillon, Robeson and Marlboro Counties through midnight for sleet and freezing rain.

Highs Friday will be in the mid-40s at the beach and the upper-30s to low-40s inland. A weak storm system will start to move through by the afternoon.

This storm system will bring enough moisture for a few light showers late in the day, with temperatures in the 30s in the afternoon. Some of the rain will mix with a little sleet at times, but no accumulations are expected. Plenty of cold air in place with a weak storm system moving through will give our inland areas the risk of a little rain mixed with sleet.

The airport crew at Raleigh-Durham International Airport reported .10" of freezing rain just before 4 p.m. No major delays were being reported at that airport. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is reporting a one-hour delay on some arriving flights. If you're flying out of MYR or FLO to CLT, check your flights to make sure they aren't delayed, WMBF Storm Team Meteorologist Jaime Arnold advises.

As of Friday at about 2 p.m., HD Doppler was showing another batch of light freezing rain and sleet to moved across Scotland and Robeson Counties for about an hour, creating the potential for some slick spots on roadways, Arnold says.

FRIDAY WEATHER TIMELINE

Friday AM: Increasing clouds and COLD. Lower 20s inland and middle to upper 20s.

Friday Midday: Mostly cloudy and still cold. Temperatures mid 30s well inland and low 40s at the beach. A little light sleet possible north and west of interstate 95.

Friday Afternoon: Cloudy with very light rain showers, mixed with sleet at times across the inland areas (with a focus on Bennettsville, Laurinburg and Lumberton). No accumulation is expected, but remember, just a little ice on the roads can cause big problems.

We dry out by Friday night with more sunshine for the weekend

Clearing skies and chilly temperatures will linger through the weekend.

Temperatures will rebound Monday and rise through the first part of next week all the way to 70 by Wednesday!
