WACCAMAW RIVER, NC (WMBF) – A Loris man who has been
volunteering to clean litter around the Waccamaw River for over a decade was given an award for
his service Saturday.
Dale Stevens, a native of Loris, South Carolina, received
the Waccamaw Riverkeeper Joy Pinson Award for Exceptional Service to the Waccamaw
River for 2012 on Saturday at the 2013 Waccamaw Conference.
Stevens has had a lifelong love affair with the Waccamaw
River, event organizer stated in a news release; he enjoys fishing, camping and
boating on the 140-mile river, located in southeastern North Carolina and
eastern South Carolina.
Stevens is an active participant in Riverkeeper litter
cleanups, hosts his own river sweeps each May, and contributes to many projects
and outings along the Waccamaw River, organizers stated.
