Golfers weigh in on new superstore

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Golfsmith, one of the world's leading golf superstores, is coming to Myrtle Beach with plans to build a storefront near the Coastal Grand Mall area.

"The convenience is excellent for all golfers," said DynaSwing Fit Golf Pro Shelby Smith.

Smith says he's excited about the new shop because it will expose more potential golfers to the game.

"The sophistication of golf products is excellent for all players, all ages, from beginner to advanced."

The 36,000 square foot golf retail store is planned for construction at the southwest corner of Highway 17 Bypass and Highway 501 near Costco, confirms City of Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea.

Golfsmith has no other locations in South Carolina, with the closest storefronts in Raleigh, NC and Atlanta, GA.

According to their website, they offer over 19 brands of golf clubs, carts, balls, apparel and accessories in store and online.

The City of Myrtle Beach did not give a timeline on when the construction would be complete.

But some golfers say they're taking the announcement of a new golf store with a grain of salt.

"You have to decide what you want," said golfer Jack Ackert. Ackert says he likes the variety of bigger stores, but wonders if you're still getting a good deal, now that superstores are so prevalent in the marketplace.

"I don't know if they give you competitive prices because there are so many of them now."
