Moving on: Blue, Wilson make college commitments

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - As the February 6th signing date nears, two local high school football stars made college commitments over the weekend.

Jackie Hayes confirmed that Dillon junior standout running back and linebacker Joe Blue gave a verbal commitment to Steve Spurrier and the University of South Carolina. He also had offers from Florida, LSU and Alabama, among other schools. Blue will still have one more season at Dillon, but will join former Wildcats Kwinton Smith, Bryce King and D.J. Park in Columbia. Blue helped take the Wildcats to the SCHSL Class 2A Division I state title in the fall - the school's third state championship in five years.

On the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach senior cornerback Chocolate Wilson announced via his twitter account (@_CW6) on Sunday that he will commit to play for the Marshall Thundering Herd next season. Wilson missed much of his senior season due to a knee injury, but managed to get on the field for the postseason, and also earned a spot in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. Wilson was also entertaining offers from Ole Miss, Missouri and North Carolina State.

Signing day is Wednesday, February 6th.
