Health inspectors drop in top pizza shop, breakfast spot

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) -On Friday morning, Cici's Pizza employees were hard at work behind closed doors. Maintenance workers were fixing a list of issues documented by a Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) inspector after a routine inspection.

The DHEC report shows the pizza spot scored an 83 - a 'B' rating.

There were two critical violations. The inspector found pizza sitting below the required temperature, and found the dishwasher was not sanitizing the dishes properly. There were more problems with the dishwasher: the inspector reportedly found food and mold buildup on the trays.

The report goes on to show violations for a dirty and leaky sink. Two more violations were cited for improperly storing food trays. Cici's Pizza will have a follow up inspection and management says they'll be ready and will get their 'A' rating back.

Eggs Up Grill in Surfside Beach scored a 93, an 'A' rating, during its latest health inspection.

"They deserve that rating, and probably even better than that," said Bill Duncan, a regular at Eggs Up.

The report shows when DHEC dropped in, the inspector found four violations. The inspector reported the area around mixers was dirty and so was a part of a storage shelf, but Duncan says he's never noticed a problem. "I can't recall an incident that I had to send something back because a plate wasn't clean or the silverware wasn't clean," he said.

Two more violations were handed down for improper storage of cleaning cloths and for a missing thermometer inside of a cooler.
