Sports tourism study results to be released today

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Sports tourism is big business for the Grand Strand. New details this morning show its raising our profile in the sports world. So much so, there are plans to invest more money into new facilities.

While the finishing touches continue on the last fields in Grand Park at Market Common, hours from now we will hear the results from the National Association of Sports Commissions study on what more can be done in our area.

The last study was completed a couple of years ago, before we had Grand Park, and it analyzed all the options the City had for sports tourism at the time.

Results showed the City had the potential of bringing in more than $25 million, but we were lacking in all the necessary multi-field complexes to bring in the dough.

Now that we've seen some changes, today's study will tell us if all the money has been poured into the right kinds of projects and what should be built next.

The presentation will be at 9 a.m. at the City Council workshop, and later at the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.

WMBF News Reporter Alex Holley is LIVE throughout WMBF News Today with new details on a proposed $10 million dollar indoor sports facility that could be built in Myrtle Beach.
