MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - A mall employee is facing charges after a coworker spotted her shoplifting from a store she was hired to protect.

When Horry County Police responded to Inlet Square Mall on Saturday, they met a loss prevention employee who claimed he saw a woman stealing jewelry.

But that woman, 42-year-old Shawn Lynn Westover, is employed by the mall as a security officer.

Westover's colleague claims he saw her removing the tags from multiple pieces of jewelry, then hanging the tags back on the rack and slipping those items into her pocket.

After confronting Westover, the incident report states she signed a form admitting she had shoplifted the $36.96 worth of accessories.

The report states she was on duty and wearing her uniform at the time.

Westover was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released on Sunday with a $500 bond.
