MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Hotel guests can sleep easy tonight knowing a man wanted for two recent armed robberies at local hotels is now behind bars.
Myrtle Beach police arrested 64-year-old Richard Gary Powers around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Powers was arrested on Ocean Boulevard and is being charged with armed robbery, burglary, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Police believe he is connected to the armed robberies that recently happened on Ocean Blvd, the most recent being at the Best Western Plus on Friday evening. According to Myrtle Beach Police, Powers allegedly walked up to a guest on the third floor of the hotel, and robbed him at gun point. He then fled the scene and onto the beach.
Police were able to pull a picture of Powers from surveillance cameras at the Best Western Plus and through the investigation saw similarities to another armed robbery at the Landmark Hotel earlier this month.
Powers is currently in custody.
