LAURINBURG, NC (WMBF) Three juveniles are in custody following an attempted burglary in Scotland County Tuesday night.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. three suspects knocked on the door of a home on Ashley Drive in Laurinburg. When 71-year-old Walter Moore answered the door the suspects tried to force their way into the home, according to a press release by Lt. Cliff Sessoms of the Laurinburg Police Department. After a brief struggle, Moore was able to push the subjects out of the apartment and secure the door.
Moore described the intruders as juveniles and that they displayed what appeared to be a gun. Upon investigation by the Laurinburg Police Department the three juveniles were arrested on Wednesday, according to Lt. Sessoms. The weapon used in the time of the crime, a Daisy BB gun, was also recovered.
Two of the suspects, ages 13, were charged with conspiracy, 1st degree burglary and assault, Lt. Sessoms said. The two 13-year-olds are being held in a juvenile detention facility and more charges are pending.
The third suspect, age 16, was charged with conspiracy, attempted robbery, 1st degree burglary and assault and resist. The 16-year-old is also facing charges of delay and obstruct an officer after giving the investigator false information regarding his age, according to Lt. Sessoms. He is now at the Scotland County Jail on a $75,000 secure bond.
