Buzz about new business in downtown Myrtle Beach

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - There are new details on changes coming to Ocean Boulevard. Over the past year, the city has seen several new developments in different parts of downtown. Now there is a new hotspot for new business, sources said.

Plenty of buzz is brewing about new business coming to Ocean Boulevard, and the next area in line to be developed is the empty lot on the part of the Pavilion site closest to the ocean. It's considered prime property for investors, and people say they would like to see something happen.

"I think it'd be a great idea," said Jamie Brown, who spends time on Ocean Boulevard. "Develop this land, put in a new restaurant, and have something for the little kids. I think it'd be a great idea. There's nothing wrong with improving and getting bigger and better."

There are efforts to make new changes in other, older parts of downtown Myrtle Beach. The overall plan is to have more dining options, such as sit-down restaurants, at the beach sources said. There's also space for more entertainment; the goal is to have more attractions and rides for the younger crowds.

These talks are happening while there's work going on now, and as the construction continues on the new "I Love Sugar" candy store off Ocean Boulevard. Boardwalk business owners feel the new activity will be better for everyone.

"The more new business, the more people will come," said Deann Sarver, who owns a business on the boardwalk. "I can see them improving all over every street. New businesses, new improvements coming in, so it's good."
