MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A man that Horry County police say killed his wife in 2011 pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in Horry County Circuit Court Wednesday; he was sentenced to over 17 years in prison.

James Lippert, 50, was originally charged with murder after police said he stabbed and killed his wife, 38-year-old Marsella Lippert, following a physical fight at their Myrtle Beach home in November of 2011. The couple's children were home at the time of the fight, including their eight-year-old daughter, who is heard in tapes of the 911 call made that night.

In a hearing Wednesday, Lippert pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, a charge that prosecuting attorney Scott Hucks believes applies in this case. He said that the fight stemmed from a domestic dispute about James being at work too much, and whether or not Marsella would leave and take their children.

Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Lippert to 17 years and 6 months in a state correctional institution.
