DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - Darlington County officials are investigating the death of a Chesterfield man after he was involved in a fight on Saturday, Dec. 29.
Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee said 41-year-old David Tidwell is from Chesterfield. Hardee says Tidwell was pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital on Tuesday. "The Body has been sent to Newberry for autopsy. After the post mortem examination I will release cause and manner of death" added Coroner Hardee.
Deputies were called to the 2600 block of New Market Road for fight in progress around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators say around 6 men including Tidwell, and two women, came to the residence and started fighting with Tidwell's ex-wife and her family members. After the fight stopped, Tidwell was transported to an area hospital by a personal vehicle, and then flown to a hospital in Columbia where he later died.
The case is now a death investigation, no arrests have been made at this time. "We are investigating why Tidwell and others were at the house of his ex-wife and what lead to the fight. When we get all the facts, then we will make a decision if any charges will be filed" Said Darlington County Sheriff J. Wayne Byrd.
