Conway man refused to stop for checkpoint

Posted: Updated:

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A New Year's Eve police chase landed one Conway man in the hospital.

Around 11:20 p.m. at a Garden City Connector checkpoint, 36-year-old Eric Maurice Jenkins was driving a Ford Ranger and refused to stop for police.

Sgt. Jeff Benton with the Horry County Sheriff's Office said troopers chased him through Market Common in Myrtle Beach until he crossed over to Highway 17 Bypass.

The vehicle chase ended when Jenkins crashed close to the HTC building on Hwy 707 near Enterprise Road, but then he led police on a foot chase.

Jenkins was captured and taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center to be checked out. The Horry County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
