Bennettsville Police arrest suspect in New Year's Eve murder

BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) A shooting in Marlboro County left one man dead and another behind bars on New Year's Eve.

Bennettsville Police Department arrested 20-year-old Prentiss Edward Pouncy on Monday as a suspect in a shooting that killed Gavin Jackson.

On Monday, Bennettsville police responded to a 911 call on Woodrow Street in reference to a shooting.

When arriving at the home where Pouncy lived, police found that Jackson had been shot, according to Lt. Larry Turner of the Bennettsville Police Department.  

Jackson was transported to Marlboro Park Hospital where he later died. His age is not known at this time, according to Lt. Turner.

Pouncy is being charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Pouncy's bond hearing will be during the next general session court sometime in January, according to Lt. Turner. He is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
