FLORENCE, SC (AP) - A Florence church has a new, modern baby Jesus for its manger scene a year after someone stole Him from a manger scene.
First Baptist Church has displayed the nativity scene undisturbed for more than 60 years before the baby was discovered missing last Christmas.
Media outlets reported that a flurry of publicity led a man to call and say his daughter was the baby-napper. He anonymously turned in two babies, but neither were the one from the manger scene.
Pastor Daniel Inabinet says there was no way to replace the baby Jesus to the old-time manger scene. The new baby is much more modern looking. But Inabinet says that matches the Christmas story well because Jesus wasn't one to fit in with the crowd.
