MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - With only a few more days until Christmas, shopping malls are expecting big crowds of last minute shoppers.
The last Saturday before Christmas, known as Super Saturday or Panic Saturday, is expected to bring in 13 million shoppers looking to buy last minute gifts.
Shoppers have a full extra weekend before Christmas this year. In 2011, there were only three full Saturdays in December and Christmas Eve fell on a Saturday and store hours were shorter. Retailers are making the most of a full extra Saturday and stores are pulling out the mega deals. One report indicates shopper will see on average about a 10 percent better discount than Black Friday.
A recent survey showed the average shopper was only half way done with Christmas shopping as of this Wednesday.
"I mean a lot of people do last minute shopping and all that. I know I'm not quite done yet. I know I'll be here before the weekend is over," said Kourtney Gregory on Thursday. She was at Coastal Grand Mall checking off people her gift list. Many industry leaders are expecting this Saturday to be the busiest shopping day of the year, even surpassing Black Friday.
