NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – According to North Myrtle Beach police, a man is in jail for molesting a young girl over a five-year time period.

Police have arrested 54-year-old Robert Abercrombie of North Myrtle Beach.

About a month ago, the young girl's father called police saying Abercrombie had been touching his daughter inappropriately from 2005 to 2012.

The father reportedly told police Abercrombie molested his daughter several times from age 12 to 16. The father said his daughter told him about the incident through text message as she was too afraid to come forward until now.

Police charged Abercrombie with criminal sexual conduct of a minor between 11 and14 years-of-age.

Police say Abercrombie attempted to contact the young girl, but she has moved away and changed her telephone number.

He was released from J. Reuben Long with a $50,000 bond.
