Car chase leads police to drugs, cash

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Thousands of dollars and a large stash of drugs were discovered after a short police chase in Horry County.

Horry County Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler the vehicle was stopped on Highway 501.

Initially, the vehicle's driver, 25-year-old Laquinta Oshay Singleton, got out and did as the detectives asked. Then a passenger jumped into the driver's seat, placed the car in reverse and backed into the detective's vehicle, knocking the officer to the ground.

Three suspects then fled in the vehicle, leading police on chase five miles down Highway 501.

Sgt. Kegler says the chase ended near the Highway 22 exit when the driver crashed into a fence. The occupants of the vehicle then lead officers on short foot chase when they fled the scene.

When the running stopped, Narcotics and Vice detectives took three suspects into custody and two kilograms of cocaine and crack cocaine were seized.

They also found three handguns and $70,000.

Laquinta Singleton, 22-year-old Tariq Simone Zachary and 25-year-old Anrique Rashad Zachary are being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending charges from the US Drug Enforcement Unit.
