Owner exchanges gunfire with burglary suspect

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Police are looking for a suspect after a Florence County homeowner reports they came home to find an intruder.

Sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Brett Camp says the burglary happened around 9 p.m. on McCutheon Road in Lake City Thursday night.

The owner of the home returned home to find his back door was open and a stranger was in his house. After an exchange of words and gunfire, the suspect fled into the wooded area behind the home.

Because it was so dark, the home owner did not get a good description of the suspect.

Capt. Camp adds that dogs were called out to search but no one was located. No one was injured in this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
