MABLETON, GA (AP) - Police outside Atlanta say a girl is facing a murder charge after investigators say they found a newborn child buried in woods behind an apartment complex.
Cobb County police Officer Mike Bowman said the baby was discovered Wednesday in a wooded area behind a unit of the Sierra Forest Apartments in Mableton.
Bowman said the girl, whom police determined is the infant's mother, has been charged with felony murder, first-degree child cruelty and concealing a death.
Bowman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the mother is 13 years old. Her name wasn't released.
An autopsy was scheduled to be done by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office to determine how the newborn died.
