Two charged in shooting death of Sumter man

SUMTER, SC (AP) - Two people are charged in the shooting death of a Sumter man whose body was found alongside a street.

Police said Wednesday 32-year-old Gary R. Dargan had been charged with murder, and 30-year-old Shonta Larissa Helton was charged with accessory before the fact of murder.

Police responding to a call about shots fired around 12:30 a.m. Sunday found Mario Scott's body. He had been shot in the chest and back and was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators say Helton argued with Scott on Saturday and later called Dargan, who followed him and shot him as he walked down the street.

Dargan and Helton were being held in jail, and it wasn't known if they had attorneys.
