HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man charged in a fatal shooting two years ago has returned to Horry County after spending over a year in a state correctional facility.

Booking records for J. Reuben Long Detention Center show 31-year-old George Everette Gray was taken in to the facility Tuesday morning, facing pending murder charges from 2010.

After a bond hearing, Gray was released from the jail on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond, says Horry County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Jeff Benton.

Previously Gray was serving a 21 month sentence with the SC Dept. of Corrections for an indecent exposure charge, and the murder charge from Horry County was pending.

A grand jury indicted Gray and an additional suspect for murder in connection to the fatal shooting in February 2011. Five other suspects were also charged with accessory.

The shooting occurred in August of 2010 on Strand Drive in Socastee. The victim, Sylvester Smart, Jr died at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from a gunshot wound to the chest. A total of 14 suspects were eventually linked the Smart's death.
