FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Florence County Coroner's Officer has identified the man killed in a collision with a tractor trailer in Florence County.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said around 11 p.m. Monday night, the driver of a Cadillac was heading west on U.S. 378 when the car swerved into oncoming traffic near East Union School Road. At that moment, the Cadillac hit a tractor trailer, ultimately killing the driver Collins said.
"The driver of the Cadillac was not wearing a seat belt," Collins said.
Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews identified the driver as 41-year-old David Leon Bethea from Nichols. He was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
WMBF News has learned the passenger in the car was transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. Collins said they're not sure if the passenger was wearing a seat belt either.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. At this time this accident remains under investigation.
