LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – After originally being reported missing, a teen girl is spending time behind bars for abandoning her infant child.

On Thursday, Dec. 6, Horry County Police were called to the Longs area over concerns that 17-year-old Katelyn Stetler had not been seen in about four days.

The woman who reported the teen missing claims Stetler left their home on Dec. 3 and had texted her later that day, but that was the last time they spoke. Some of the girl's clothes were missing, but Stetler had not made arrangements for the care of her 9-month-old daughter.

Stetler had said she would be back later, but never returned. The report states she is known to have a drug problem, was found "multiple times with crack cocaine," and may have been with a man named Gary.

The report does not detail the relationship of the woman who reported her missing to Stetler or who cared for the infant while Stetler was away from the home.

Katelyn Stetler was taken into custody on Sunday, Dec. 9 and charged with abandonment of children. Her bond was set at $5,000.
