Driver in fatal Hwy 501 crash gets 5 years in jail

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man that pleaded guilty to reckless homicide after his roommate died in a car crash has been sentenced to jail time.

Travis Hyman with the Horry County Assistant Solicitor said 29-year-old Evgeny Pavlovich Bolotov was sentenced in court Wednesday to serve ten years in prison, which was reduced to a five year prison term.

Authorities say Bolotov was behind the wheel of a car that ran a red light in Myrtle Beach, causing an accident that killed his friend. He fled the scene before emergency crews arrived.

A glance at Horry County public records show Bolotov has been in and out of traffic court several times in the past few years, and recently served time for public intoxication.

The passenger in the car he was driving was identified by Horry County Coroner Robert Edge as 26-year-old Sereey Kharlamov of Myrtle Beach.

The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8 on Highway 501 and Robert Grissom Parkway. Two cars were involved it the wreck, a Nissan and a BMW.

The driver of the Nissan, Bolotov, ran the red light causing the BMW to hit the Nissan on the passenger side where Kharlamov was sitting.
