MYRTLE BEACH, SC -
Friday is a day Goose Creek WR Tramel Terry probably won't be forgetting anytime soon. In the morning Terry's commitment to the University of Georgia became official as he signed his scholarship with the Bulldogs. This evening in Myrtle Beach at the North-South Awards, he was named the South Carolina Mr. Football Award going to the top player in the state.
"Goose creek WE did it glad i won SOUTH CAROLINA Mr. FOOTBALL" Terry said on his Twitter account. "it probably the best day ever signing with UGA And Winning MR FOOBALL"
Terry put up big numbers in his final season with the Gators totaling over 1600 yards of total offense and 25 total touchdowns helping Goose Creek to a 13-0 record on the field.
The Goose Creek senior becomes the first Lowcountry player to win the award since Stratford's Moe Thompson back in 2001.
His commitment to Georgia also means he'll be the first Mr. Football winner in 5 years to not play for Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney and Shaq Roland each went on to become Gamecocks. Terry will be the first winner to suit up for the Bulldogs since 2005 winner Prince Miller of Byrnes.
TL Hanna linebacker Ben Boulware, Strom Thurmond running back Darius Hammond, receiver Akia Booker of Byrnes and athlete Mykal Moody of Conway were the other nominees for the award.
