MARION, SC (WMBF) – Two Marion County deputies are fired after testing positive for drugs, confirms Sheriff Mark Richardson.
After getting a call saying one deputy was using drugs, Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson decided to have all 40 of his patrolling deputies tested.
On Wednesday afternoon, they were called in for testing at the jail. Sheriff Richardson says two of the deputies tested positive.
One deputy tested positive for marijuana, the second deputy tested positive for cocaine.
Sheriff Richardson offered each deputy the chance to take a second test at the hospital, giving them the opportunity for further testing to confirm the results.
The deputies said there was no need. Both have been terminated.
Sheriff Richardson cannot release the names of the deputies, but says he has sent the positive test results to the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
He expects further consequences for the two, including having their law enforcement certifications revoked.
