SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It all began with the report of a stolen cell phone and ended with police pursuing two suspects on foot through the woods in the South Strand Wednesday afternoon.

According to Capt. Aaron Miller with Surfside Beach Police, officers were originally dispatched to a call when someone reported a stolen cell phone.

After receiving the suspect and vehicle description, a patrol car attempted to stop a suspect vehicle in Surfside. That led to a short pursuit on Holmestown Road, turning right onto Highway 707 toward the Socastee area.

After reaching Caspian Drive, the suspects jumped out of the vehicle, allowing it to roll along a utility road and into the woods. The suspects were pursued by Surfside Beach Police and Horry County Police officers, but were not immediately found.

The vehicle was towed and a search of the vehicle is part of the continuing investigation. Capt. Miller adds that they did not find a cell phone during their search.

On Friday, Interim Police chief Rodney Keziah reports that the two suspects were arrested. Twenty-year-old Amanda Lankford was found at workplace, and charged with strong armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

Also arrested was 21-year-old Joshua Maurice Redmond of Myrtle Beach. He is charged with accessory after the fact of felony, criminal conspiracy, failure to stop for blue lights and reckless driving.

Both Redmond and Lankford are facing additional charged from Myrtle BEach Police for an unrelated incident.

"It is great to finally get these offenders off the street to stop further victimization of citizens, especially during this Holiday Season," Keziah said.
