Florence couple aims for Powerball, wins $1M

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A couple in Florence came very close to taking home the big bucks in the $587.5 million Powerball jackpot.

The couple had all but the winning Powerball number.

That knocked them out of the big jackpot but they didn't go empty handed.

The couple ended up winning $1 million, and could've doubled that if Powerplay was added.

The clerk asked the husband when he purchased the ticket if he wanted to add Powerplay, an option that would've doubled the $1 million to $2 million.

It cost him only $1 extra, the husband didn't think he and his wife would beat the odds and win $1 million, so he didn't add Powerplay.

He said if he had the chance to do it all over again, he would gladly pay an extra $1 to double the money.

The couple said they are very lucky, and the Powerball ticket will make retirement worry free.

The ticket was sold by Cruizers XII in Florence and they received a $10,000 commission for selling that ticket.
