COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - The Dillon High School football team finished what it started out to do during preseason practice back in August: Win the South Carolina state championship.
Dillon defeated Fairfield-Central High School 21-6 in the Class AA, Division I state title game, making it the school's third title in five years. The Wildcats finish the 2012 season 13-1.
Freshman quarterback Avery McCall threw three touchdowns in the game, while also accounting for 128 yards through the air. Anthony Blue ran for 204 yards, and caught a touchdown while Joe Blue rushed for 97 yards on the day.
McCall also threw touchdowns to Ezra Lighty and Ereon Hayes to help put his team up 21-6 at halftime. Dorian Davis picked up two interceptions before the first half was over as well.
After recovering an Anthony Blue fumble in the second half, Fairfield-Central had some signs of life, but any hope was taken away when Sam McLean came up with another interception to seal the win.
