MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An Horry Georgetown Technical College student was just released from police custody after reportedly tapping a bullet on his desk during class, and harassing a former flame.

The incident report states the student, 36-year-old Lanceford Brian Bayes of Pawleys Island, was attending a class on the Myrtle Beach campus of HGTC Tuesday morning, during which two student spotted him tapping a bullet on his desk.

One of those students attended a class with Bayes later in the day, and explains that some of his statements about his peers made her uncomfortable. That's when she approached her professor who contacted authorities.

The police officer who responded met Bayes at the location of his next class, where Bayes admitted he had three firearms in his vehicle and it was parked on campus.

Bayes also admitted to having the bullet in his pocket in class earlier that morning.

The report states Bayes did not have any weapons on him, and allowed police to search his vehicle where they found the firearms and a small supply of Vicodin. They also found loaded magazines in the car's console.

Further investigation reveals witnesses had noticed violent behavior from Bayes the day before. Interviews with an acquaintance reveals she tried to end her relationship with Bayes when she realized he was already seeing someone.

She admits she stopped visiting and answered his calls, and the last time she was over at his home, he pinned her down and refused to let her leave.

The woman continues to state that when she told Bayes she did not want a relationship with him, he broke a window with his fist. According to the report, Bayes later approached her on campus with a gun and forced her to get into his truck.

After the incident at school on Tuesday, Bayes was taken into custody and transported to the Myrtle Beach Jail.

He was later booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he was charged with kidnapping, stalking, disturbing schools, carrying weapons on school property and possession of other controlled substances.

He was released on Thursday afternoon on $55,000 bond.

A statement issued from the school reads:

A student at Horry Georgetown Technical College has been placed on administrative suspension pending disciplinary review and has been issued a no trespassing order by the college department of public safety. Greg Thompson, HGTC associate vice president for student affairs, said the decision came after the student's arrest by a college public safety officer earlier this week.

An incident report issued by the Coastal Carolina University Department of Public Safety identified Lanceford Brian Bayes as having been arrested Tues., Nov. 27, on the HGTC Grand Strand Campus following an incident of harassment. The arrest was made in response to concern over the tapping of a bullet on a desk during class. A classmate issued a statement concerning "violent behavior" after the breakup of a relationship.
