Assault suspect hid from police in bathtub

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - A Conway man is facing a slew of domestic violence charges after his live-in lover called police to report an assault.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday night, dispatchers received a call from a woman saying that her common law husband was "bleeding badly and that she was not going to allow him to beat her anymore."

When officers with the Horry County Police Department arrived at the Little River home, the female answered the door in bloody clothes, explaining that the man wasn't there anymore.

Searching to home as a precaution, police found the man hiding in the bathtub behind the shower curtain with what appeared to be a stab wound on his neck, the incident report states.

After EMS arrived on scene to treat the man's injuries, the report states the female admitted "she had picked up a kitchen knife and wildly swung it at [him] while he was assaulting her to get him off of her."

She further explained that though she lived with him, he was not living in the home at the time. The female claims the man came pounding on her door to get in, forced himself through the door, took her phone, began pushing her around the house, and yelled at her.

That's when the woman says she grabbed the knife and swung at him.

The report also notes red marks on the female's shoulder and neck consistent with the alleged assault, as well as puddles of blood in the kitchen.

The female reported to police she feared for her life and her child who was in the home at the time, and had reported similar behavior with her boyfriend in the past.

While investigating this incident, dispatch was able to confirm several outstanding warrants for the man for criminal domestic violence, leading police to take him into custody.

Booking records for J. Reuben Long Detention Center show 32-year-old Herschel Greene is facing charges for stalking, resisting arrest, criminal domestic violence, criminal domestic violence high and aggravated, driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights though many of those charges were waged before the incident Tuesday night.

His bond has not been set.
