SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On Tuesday, customers at the Firing Line shooting range in Spartanburg County took aim at a different kind of wish list this holiday season.

"It's just a scary, scary world now," Mandy Smith said.

And even though diamonds are always nice accessories, Smith said she is eyeing a shiny new piece to add to her collection this Christmas.

"My husband bought a .40 caliber and so, I thought it was necessary to come out and shoot that gun. It's a very large gun," Smith said.

She tried it out at the range and decided  she needed a smaller size.

"I guess start with a .22 and move up," Smith said.

Reports show an all-time record high in gun sales on Black Friday and Johnny Horton said sales at The Firing Line shot up too.

"We saw about a 30 percent increase in sales," Horton said.

Horton is a co-owner at The Firing Line and said because guns were tax free on Black Friday, customers and gun vendors took advantage of the deal.

"The one (vendor) here in-state, they've seen an increase from $3 million a day to $5 million a day," Horton said.

But he said he also wants customers to leave with the right gift, so gift cards are an option too.

"Husbands buying a gun for a wife you know sometimes don't always fit, so we encourage them to bring the spouse with them before they buy the gun," Horton said.

And Smith said that shiny new piece may be just the thing she needs if a Grinch tries to mess with her this Christmas.

"I think it's a necessary thing," Smith said.

Reports show the FBI took more than 154,000 calls for gun background checks on Black Friday. An FBI spokesperson said there were so many calls there were two brief outages at FBI call centers.
