One man dead, one child injured in Darlington County crash

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of one man and injured a child late Saturday night.

Lance Corporal Bob Darris with the SCHP says the accident occurred just before midnight when the vehicle traveling west on East Carolina Avenue, just outside of Hartsville, went off the road and overturned. 

According to Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee, 41-year-old Fredrick Dix of Lydia was killed instantly from injuries sustained in the accident.  He was wearing a seatbelt.

An 8-year-old child in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.  The child was taken to Carolina Pines.  No word on the extent of the injuries the child sustained.
