CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A Conway man has been sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in an Horry County courtroom.

Herbert Jordan Richardson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years by Circuit Court Judge Larry Hyman during the April 2014 term of Court, according to Assistant Solicitor Monica Wooten.

The murder happened during the early morning hours of November 23, 2012.

Officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing at an Apartment on Chester Street.

When officers arrived they did locate the victim, 50-year-old Raymond "Andy" Burkett, on the door steps.

Burkett had multiple stab wounds and was believed to have been struck in the head by a blunt object.

Burkett did tell the responding officer and a neighbor that the defendant, who was his roommate, had attacked him while he slept. Neighbors heard commotion, as Burkett was going down stairs, saying "Jordan" did this.

According to Assistant Solicitor Stephan Grooms, Burkett died within hours of giving the statement to the neighbors.

The defendant was located in the apartment and was placed under arrest without incident.
