Lines formed Wednesday for Black Friday shopping

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Shoppers stood in front of the Toys-R-Us on the eve of Black Friday, waiting for the doors to open at 8 p.m. for their chance to grab great deals.

"It's just the atmosphere, 100% the atmosphere," said one shopper.

The line stretched around the store.  Some people said they planned on staying up for more than 24 hours to stop by several stores across Myrtle Beach.

Down at the new Target off Highway 544, employees were out an hour and a half before doors opened at 9 p.m. Ashley Vanderweele was the Leader on Duty for the night.

"We've been planning for a few months now. We have to put together detailed crowd management plans," said VanderWeele.

Those plans included barricades, security tape and security officers. VanderWeele says triple the normal staff will be working over the next 26 hours Target will be open.

Gui Dean was waiting in line at the Best Buy since 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"I'll possibly take a nap in the van, which I hope to do soon before the crowds start showing up, and I can't sit in the van anymore," Dean said. He has his eyes on an LCD television and a computer.

"I'll save around $400 all together. The television itself, I'm probably saving about $150 off of it," Dean said.

But other, smaller-sized Black Friday shoppers say they want tablets and e-readers.

"I can watch movies, read books and have fun with it," Kmoni Taylor, who waited in line with her family.

And other shoppers, like Mike Rose, who'd been waiting since early Thursday morning were eager to head home.

"I'll be glad when it's over," said Rose. "I think they got a whole lot more patience than I do. I'll tell you that."
