Scranton home destroyed in explosion

SCRANTON, SC (WMBF) - A Scranton homeowner loses everything after their home is destroyed in an overnight explosion.

The South Lynches Fire Department raced to 347 Glendale School Road just after 3 a.m. Tuesday. Chief Sam Brockington says when his crew arrived, they saw flames shooting out of the roof and pouring out of the back of the home.

"The homeowner was staying next door with their mother when they heard an explosion," Brockington said.

Chief Brockington confirms more than 40 firefighters responded to the call and fought the fire for hours.

"At first we made an interior attack, but it got too dangerous and we pulled everybody out and made a defensive attack," Brockington explained.

At this time, fire investigators don't know what caused the home to explode and catch fire. However, they have enlisted the help of the Florence County Sheriff's Office to help in the investigation.

No one was injured while fighting the flames.
