HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – After the victim in a parking lot brawl died, Horry County Police began to piece together what seems to be an alcohol infused, fatal confrontation.

Horry County Police say on the night of Nov. 14, two men and a 15-year-old male were drinking at a local bar, and were eventually forced to leave the establishment. After being kicked out of the bar, the trio headed to the Wilco gas station on Highway 544 in the Conway area.

The police report states that a fight broke out in the parking lot when the two men and juvenile male confronted 67-year-old Russell W. Hall Jr., of Myrtle Beach.

The investigation by Violent Crimes detectives, who took over this case, reveals Hall was pushed and fell to the ground.

When patrol officers responded to the area, the victim was alert and talking to them, though he was knocked unconscious briefly after his head hit the concrete during the scuffle. Hall refused treatment from Horry County Fire Rescue at the time of the altercation.

Officers later learned that the victim died from fresh head trauma, an injury suffered during the altercation, after collapsing at home the day after the fight, according to the Horry County Coroner's Office.

It is unknown if the victim knew the three men who approached him in the parking lot.

Two days following the parking lot altercation, the three suspects involved were taken into police custody. So far, 23-year-old Russell Leroy Witkowski and 24-year-old Anthony Thomas Witkowski have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The 15-year-old male has also been charged with voluntary manslaughter. He is currently in custody at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. Sgt. Robert Kegler says more arrests are possible as the investigation continues.

Hall's best friend, Sammy Jones, says he hopes the law deals with the suspects fairly.

"These are young kids, and I'm sure they didn't mean what they did," Jones says. "But...they have to suffer the consequences and whatever the law deals them. They're going to have to live with that for the rest of their lives."

Jones served in the military with Hall in the Persian Gulf, and says he has trouble believing his friend had anything to do with starting the fight.

"[Hall] was not a hot tempered person," Jones says. "He was not quick to want to fight or anything like that.  He and I were together a lot and I've never seen that from him."

Hall's sister, Barbara Moore, says their family is in shock right now, and can't understand why someone would want to hurt Hall. Hall's Funeral services were held on Sunday.
