Driver identified in deadly Highway 701 crash

CONWAY, SC (WMBF)- South Carolina Highway Patrol Officers are investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick, the man who lost his life in this accident is 21 year old Jonathan J. Cox Jr. of Conway, SC.

Around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Cox was driving a 2003 Acura and traveling on Highway 701, just two miles south of Conway, when according to police he lost control of his vehicle and hit a ditch.

Cox was ejected from the car, and was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Officers determined he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Jonathan J. Cox was transported to the Conway Medical Center where he died of blunt force trauma in the E. R.

According to Deputy Coroner Hendrick, he was pronounced dead at 3:08 Sunday morning.

This accident remains under investigation by the SCHP. We will bring you more details as they become available.
