MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Salvation Army kicks off the Angel Tree and Red Kettle program at Coastal Grand Mall Friday night.

The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. in front of Belk and Andy Owings Music Center.

Entertainment during the kick-off event includes performances by the Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra, Silver Lining Dance Academy, and Tom Rotante.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is designed to bring hope to children during the Christmas season by providing  toys and shoes to those in need.  The program relies on the giving and support of the community to bring joy and happiness to families less fortunate during the holiday season.

"We are planning to give toys and shoes to over 1,000 children who have qualified for assistance this Christmas," said Brenda Ryan, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club – Horry County. "We need individuals and groups to adopt children from the Angel Tree."

Each Angel Tag has a child who lives in Horry County that has three toy wishes and their shoe sizes it. "We don't want any child to go without on Christmas morning," Ryan said.

If you would like to donate toys or adopt an Angel please contact The Salvation Army-Horry County at (843) 488-2769.
