Reindeer Race coming to town

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The annual RiverTown Reindeer Race will be held along a tree-lined route in downtown Conway the first day of December.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 1. racers will take part in the 5K race, a fundraising event of the Coastal South Carolina Chapter, American Red Cross, and its Red Cross Rescue Racers program.

Racers, which include runners and walkers, will receive awards presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in each age category. Entry fee is $22 before Nov. 30 and $25 on race day with registration held from 7-7:45 a.m. at the Conway Marina Park on 2nd Avenue.

The first 175 entrants will receive a specially designed, long-sleeve Reindeer Race T-shirt.

The Red Cross Rescue Racers is the only official charity training team of the Myrtle Beach Marathon and consists of individuals training to run or walk the half or full Myrtle Beach Marathon Feb. 16, 2013.

In exchange for the professional training they receive, each member agrees to raise money for the local chapter of the American Red Cross, which offers immediate emergency assistance to Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties.
