SALT LAKE CITY (KSL/CNN) - A paperboy in northern Utah received quite a fright on his morning delivery route. He was literally driven up a tree by an unusual neighborhood pet with an even more unusual name.

The 1 1/2-year-old goat may have a villainous name, Voldemort, but to owner Marissa Benson and her two boys, he's great.

"He's a really good pet, good with kids," she said. "A good lawn mower."

Still, somehow Voldemort's chain broke. He got loose and made his way across a street.

"It was dark and I saw this like figure," paperboy Jaxon Gessel said.

Gessel, 14, was on his early morning paper route, at first not thinking much of it.

"But I thought it was a dog. And then it made a weird noise, kind of like a grunting noise," he said.

He said the shadowy figure, Voldemort, started coming towards him.

"And so I looked over and was like, ‘what the heck is that.'" Gessel said.

He was knocked off his bike and started to run away.

"It freaked me out when it stood up on its back legs and like wrapped its front legs around me and pulled me off," Gessel said.

He took shelter in a nearby tree where he was looking down at the goat for nearly one hour.

"A juvenile was reported that he hadn't come back from a paper route and he was about an hour overdue," Smithfield officer Brandon Muir said.

He was working on the missing child case called in by Gessel's parents, until he got another call about a boy in a tree and a goat.

"He kind of had his paper-bag sitting in the tree where he was," Muir said. "He was about halfway up the tree."

Gessel said it was a strange morning filled with classmates calling him "Goat Boy."

Though he said, faced with Voldemort in the dark, anyone may react the same way.

"People are just like, 'Why are you scared of goats,'" Gessel said. "I'm like 'That was a freaky goat.' I think it's like possessed or something."

No one was hurt and Voldemort is back to causing trouble at home.

His name is from the Harry Potter series. Voldemort is Harry's archenemy.
